V2C[edit]
Hi, Does V2C work for you? I couldn't upload any video for the last week. Thanks, Yann (talk) 19:34, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Yann: Sadly no, my latest attempt to upload https://archive.org/details/dixiana-4-k to File:Dixiana 1930 (colorized, 4k, 60FPS).webm for you has been stuck pending for a week. Where do you find these 96+ year old and PD movies to upload? — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:07, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Please see my video uploads from 6 May onwards. V2C mostly worked until 15 May, and then they all failed. Now I am uploading them to IA or YT. I thought YT created WEBM versions, but it doesn't. Also, through my local library, I can have access to hundreds of old films. I haven't tried yet to upload from that. Yann (talk) 16:40, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- I think that this Dixiana video is probably too big to be uploaded that way. It needs to be converted locally to a file less than 5 GB, then it could be uploaded. Yann (talk) 10:03, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Yann: That may be, but error 137 still needs to be documented and F2C still needs to deal with it gracefully. Can you possibly reduce the video to a little less than 4k pixels or a little less than 60FPS for upload? I have not been able to get such conversion working locally. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:13, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Inner details of ffmpeg is Hebrew to me. I can't help, but give a link to the doc. Sorry. As I wrote elsewhere, I tried using VLC, but it produces a 8.77 GB WEBM file from 1.2 GB MPEG4 file (after 24h running on my laptop). Clearly not a solution, as I can't do more than one film at a time. It would take ages to process all the films. If V2C uses the same parameters, it is not surprising all my videos failed. Yann (talk) 10:22, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Yann: Thanks, I'll look into that. The V2C talk page reveals much syntax for ffmpeg. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:27, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- May be Racconish could help. He has uploaded many videos. Yann (talk) 10:31, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- What is the point of uploading a colorized version when the original has the last 20 minutes in technicolor? — Racconish 💬 12:02, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Racconish: I was trying to help Yann. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:06, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, but wouln't you both agree the charm of this film is precisely the old technicolor? — Racconish 💬 12:13, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Good morning, We are taking the necessary steps to have the image removed after receiving several pieces of feedback pointing out that the file "file:Château de la Jayère 1.JPG" gives a false image of the château. The photo dates from 2010 and work has been carried out on the grounds and on the building itself. We have provided a number of new photographs from different angles to provide recent, high-quality information. The request is justified under paragraphs ‘2.2.1 Not educationally useful’ and ‘2.4.5 Redundant/poor quality’ of the Commons removal policy for the reasons given above. We have taken care to inform the author of the file, who has not replied, and have checked that the file is no longer used on any wikipedia page. Pierre Bailleul (talk) 10:31, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Pierre Bailleul: Thank you. Please allow Commons:Deletion requests/File:Château de la Jayère 1.JPG to play out. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:43, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
License verification request[edit]
Hi Jeff G. Are you able to verify the licensing of File:Mott Nevill A2.jpg? I tried clicking on the source url, but I'm unable to get it to open. The other url provided in the file's description is just to a general licensing page of the source website. I'm asking about this because this file has replaced the non-free en:File:Sir Nevill Francis Mott.jpg that was being used in the main infobox of en:Nevill Francis Mott; so, the non-free will be deleted in five days or so if the Commons' file is OK. For reference, the same uploader as also uploaded File:Noyce Robert A1.jpg from the same site under the same {{Copyrighted free use}} license, and may have also done something similar for other files as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:13, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: I tagged those two and started Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Endebyrd. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 06:25, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
Fair use[edit]
All of the files you nominated for deletion were uploaded under fair use except for File:Wolfgang Paul portrait.jpg, File:Ruska Ernst B1.jpg, and File:Harold Urey, c. 1932.jpg, (all of which were already deleted, or nominated for deletion). This was my mistake, and I have since only uploaded files which I'm certain fits the free use criteria. The AIP Emilio Segrè Visual Archives is listed as the copyright holder of the rest of the images on the AIP.org website which according to their "Rules for Use and Publication" [1] means they may be used freely without permission: if the American Institute of Physics (AIP) is listed as the copyright holder of an image, you may use it freely without permission. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Endebyrd (talk • contribs) 16:22, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
