Seal of the Territory of New Mexico (1887–1912) - TIF to SVG[edit]
Article(s): New Mexico Territory, Seal of New Mexico
- Request
- Would anybody be able to redraw the above TIF file of the seal used by the New Mexico Territory from 1887 to 1912 as SVG please? Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 13:28, 27 January 2024 (UTC) Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:32, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- You want it to be exactly like the TIFF or would relettering one of the SVGs in category:state seals of New Mexico do? Arlo James Barnes 07:00, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- I think it would probably be better for an SVG version of the seal to be the same as the current TIF version, in order to accurately reflect the differences between the seals used by the former territory and the modern state. But thanks for enquiring. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 14:08, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, well then I'll upload a simple autotrace and let the better vector experts overwrite it when ready. In the meantime we should figure out which of COM:FONTS best matches the rim lettering so that the text may truly be represented using text in the SVG. Arlo James Barnes 21:50, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- That's a great rendition, thank you very much! So do you have any particular font in mind that you think could match that of the outer rim? Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:17, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
A heavy Scotch Roman such as Century or Clarendon would probably match closest. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 18:01, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the advice! Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 13:11, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- category:typeface Samples of Fonts available to Commons SVG engine is a more visual index of our options than COM:FONTS gives. I uploaded an un-curved sample for easy checking against (see gallery above). Arlo James Barnes 04:11, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that does look fairly accurate! Thanks for the visualisation! Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 13:11, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

- Request
- I have just uploaded sufficiently clear bitmap materials about the Chinese national emblem when it was first released, providing assurance in image quality (600dpi/1200dpi).
- This can be considered its appearance when it was first seen by the Chinese people. I hope to see a more accurate vector version.
- A comparison reveals that:
- Some of the three-dimensional details are inaccurately drawn, failing to reflect the proper perspective.
- The wheat ring appears thicker in comparison.
- The stacking order of some wheat grains is incorrect.
- There are discrepancies in the depiction of Tiananmen.
- The gears below Tiananmen are flat, lacking a three-dimensional layout.
- The depiction of the folds at the lower end of the ribbon is incorrect, and its position and angle are inconsistent.
- The path outline is too thick compared to the material I provided, resulting in lower precision.

Could the Seigneur's flag be renamed and the bordered one be renamed as the "flag of Sark" please? The C of E (talk) 18:34, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- @The C of E: The current Flag of Sark.svg cannot be overwritten or renamed, and it doesn't need to be edited; simply reverted to a previous version. The best way to go about this would be an edit request at File talk:Flag of Sark.svg, if there is incontrovertible evidence that the current version is incorrect. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 19:10, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Fvasconcellos: I think you might be misunderstanding my request. I'd like the bordered version to be renamed as Flag of Sark (and svg-ed) according to the flag's design when it was officially granted to the island by the late Queen Elizabeth. The current Flag of Sark article needs to be moved to "Flag of the Seigneur of Sark" because the Lions positioning is different between the Island's flag and the Seigneur's flag. The C of E (talk) 19:24, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @The C of E: I meant that the current Flag of Sark.svg could be reverted to the immediate previous version and it would then match the grant of arms, which would obviate the need to rename the file (or, indeed, make any changes to Flag of Sark (bordered).svg). A "fresh" flag of the Seigneur could then be uploaded.
- The current version of Flag of Sark (bordered).svg can instead be changed to match the grant, but I don't think it can be moved (or Flag of Sark.svg renamed) while the latter is protected; need to check that with an admin. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 19:51, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @The C of E: Flag of Sark (bordered).svg updated. You will need admin assistance for the corresponding renaming requests, though! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 23:37, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Democratic Party for Progress – Angolan National Alliance P.D.P.-A.N.A., For copyright reasons, please use the hand from the yellow arm. The letters are two parts of the abbreviation. [12]- Angolan National Democratic Party P.N.D.A., due to poor quality, ignore the subtitles, and for copyright reasons, draw a simplified dove.
Angolan Democratic Forum F.D.A., I haven't found a logo in good quality, but it will definitely be too complex, so ignore it completely and just make a three-color flag- Social Democratic Party P.S.D., the wreath must be made by eye
- Liberal Democratic Party P.L.D., [13] Replace the logo with its simplified shape. An alternative way is to submit it to the English wiki with an appropriate restriction.
I am not asking for the rest because they already exist, they are too complicated, or the parties do not meet the wiki validity criteria. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 20:54, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

A to Z in a circle[edit]
i tried to make an svg of A to Z forming a circle after finding no existing svg. i hammered out this code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <svg viewBox="0 0 300 300" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"> <circle r="100" stroke="#000" cy="140" cx="-30" stroke-width="0" fill="none" id="Circle1" /> <text font-size="32" fill="#000000" letter-spacing="6.5" font-family="monospace"> <textPath xlink:href="#Circle1">ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</textPath></text> </svg>
problems:
- is there a better way to achieve this? so that the 26 letters are truly equally spaced out? i tried to do the math but i cant get it right probably because i got the units wrong, so now they are just manually spaced to be roughly equidistant.
- png doesnt render.
(math i did:)
fontsize = x pt = 4x/3 px 26*(fontsize+spacing)=2 pi r r = 13*(4x/3+spacing)/pi

Graphist opinion(s):
- @RZuo: Unfortunately, librsvg (Wikimedia's SVG renderer) does not implement text-on-path; see Help:SVG. You need to either convert the text to paths or have each character as an individual text element with the appropriate transforms. I've overwritten the file with some example code so it renders, feel free to revert or tweak it at your discretion. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 16:41, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Fvasconcellos thx a lot! your replacement is good enough for the time being. i dont have the expertise to handle more complicated svg either.
- i guess specifying the positions for each letter is the only feasible method now. RZuo (talk) 17:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Sadly, this problem runs into many SVG agent limitations. WMF's uses
librsvg
, but it has many limitations — including no support fortextPath
. Chrome does not liketextPath
using acircle
(a path that does not have a starting position). Using apath
element with arc segments runs into other issues when trying to make a complete circle. - It gets worse. In theory, setting
textLength="100%"
should expand the text to fit the whole path (similar tostartOffset="50%"
). Firefox apparently ignores thetextLength
attribute, and Chrome does not use the correct value. Chrome will accept an explicit length oftextLength="628"
(but that puts no spacing between Z and A).- note change to

- All of these emblems may be copyrighted. Why would the justification used (""Copyright shall not apply to shields, flags or emblems of any country, state, municipality or political division;") apply to soccer team emblems? The first two are tied to state universities. Are universities a political division? Certainly the last two are not tied to the government. Glrx (talk) 15:34, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx The license applies because they are emblems of Mexican soccer teams , I even asked the administrator @Taivo of image and he said that it is compatible to be on Wikimedia Commons. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 17:32, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx Furthermore, the license does not specify that the emblems of Mexican soccer teams cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 17:33, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx The logos of state universities in Mexico do not have copyright, their logos are available here:

- The license says: "Copyright shall not apply to ... symbols ... of ... any ... organization officially recognized", that means: all official Mexican logos are out of copyright. For example logo projects can be copyrighted. Taivo (talk) 18:33, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Taivo: I believe that reading is too broad (if you believe the last two logos do not have a copyright). The template text states, "Copyright shall not apply to shields, flags or emblems of any country, state, municipality or political division; names, acronyms, symbols or emblems of international governmental organisations, or any other organization officially recognized; or legislative, regulatory, administrative or judicial texts, as well as their official translations." I do not see private corporations such as soccer teams being "officially recognized" because the thrust of all the other exclusions applies to government entities. I do not know Mexican law, but implied result seems absurd. A private, unrecognized, organization may copyright an emblem, but a public corporation may not. If the intent is to deny copyrights for emblems, then it could just deny copyright for all symbols and emblems. Glrx (talk) 19:38, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- Practically copyright for all Mexican symbols and emblems is denied. The law is worded quite exactly: logo projects can be copyrighted, logos of unrecognized organisations can be copyrighted (by their authors, because these organisations themselves cannot hold copyright due to being unrecognized), but unrecognized organisations have generally no influence to society. The implied result seems to me logical and not at all absurd. Taivo (talk) 19:52, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx Mexican soccer teams are recognized organizations by Mexican Football Federation which in turn is affiliated with Confederación Deportiva Mexicana, so it is a recognized organization, since it is affiliated to a confederation that belongs to the Government of Mexico, If it were not affiliated, it would be an illegal organization and would not have teams that are also recognized by FIFA. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 23:37, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx Any organization that operates in Mexico has to be recognized by the Government of Mexico, because it would be an illegal organization. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 23:42, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Request to Vectorize PNG file to SVG[edit]

PNG version of Kreation Music Rights' Logo
-
SVG version
Article(s): Kreation Music Rights
- Request
- Could someone please vectorzie this PNG file to an SVG file? I would like the SVG version to closely match the original PNG in terms of color, shape, and detail. Additionally, please ensure that:
- The maximum image quality will be 2560 x 570 (WxH)
- All text in the image is converted to vector text (not as paths).
- The SVG file is optimized for web use (compressed without losing quality).
- Transparent areas in the PNG are preserved in the SVG.
- Any complex patterns or gradients are accurately represented.
Thank you for your help! --ReVeluv02 (talk) 13:41, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- @ReVeluv02: There are a few issues with this request:
- There is no way to limit the maximum size or quality of an SVG file. The "S" in SVG means it is infinitely scalable.
- If text is not converted to paths, it will not match the original at all, due to the limited range of fonts available to the Wikimedia SVG renderer. For the vector version to match the raster file, all text must be converted to paths.
- There are no complex patterns or gradients in this image.
- All that being said, here is the vectorized version.

Porirua coat of arms with crest SVG[edit]
-
My attempt
Article(s): Possibly Porirua, Porirua City Council and/or New Zealand heraldry
- Request
- I had made an attempt at creating an SVG of the coat of arms Porirua using Inkscape based on the blazon given here. I have just done the escutcheon + crest, as I didn't feel up to the challenge of doing the supporters as well. However, I obviously don't really know what I'm doing, so if someone is able to fix it that would be great.
- Mainly if you could get rid of the red parts from the torse and mantling from the elements I used as the base and replace them with the green, remove the yellow from around the galley, and any other changes/fixes you feel may be necessary? Much appreciated!--Radicuil (talk) 12:59, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Update: I believe I may have worked it out and managed to fix it myself, so perhaps nevermind!-Radicuil (talk) 10:33, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

- (details of your request go here...) The white 'V' part of the logo doesn't really have a visible outer line so on the Wikipedia article in the box it doesn't look clear. - Done, @Rex Aurorum: see File:Flag of Malaysia and Indonesia.svg. I added a very thin border on the diagonal so the border between the two flags is easy to see. Also scaled the blue part of the Malaysian flag slightly so it wouldn't overlap with the border. —Matrix(!) {user - talk? -

- @TheNuggeteer: The SVG conversion lost color, text, detail, and aspect ratio. White stars have become transparent. Glrx (talk) 15:33, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- Comment This looks like it was done with the auto-trace tool, which is just not the right tool for the job. This flag design lends itself very well to being manually traced. ReneeWrites (talk) 20:09, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

A booklet with identical drawings (and very possibly the original source for the AEHS images) available from AirCorps Library has a defective copyright notice, placing the source drawings in the public domain.
